Μία από τις χειρότερες πτυχές του πολέμου, είναι η καταστροφική επίδραση των μαχών στη ζωή των παιδιών. Ενώ δε φέρουν καμία ευθύνη για τις εχθροπραξίες, ωστόσο ο αντίκτυπος του τραύματος και της βίας σε μια παράλογη κλίμακα είναι εμφανής σε αυτά.
Ακόμα και σήμερα, με τους διεθνείς νόμους και συμβάσεις για την προστασία των δικαιωμάτων των παιδιών σε περιόδους πολέμου, πάρα πολλά παιδιά εξακολουθούν να υποφέρουν. Υπολογίζεται ότι 14 εκατομμύρια παιδιά ζουν σήμερα κάτω από πολύ σκληρές συνθήκες εξαιτίας των συνεπειών του πολέμου στο Ιράκ και τη Συρία, σύμφωνα με τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη.
Οι συγκρούσεις εκτός της απειλής της ζωής των παιδιών, πετυχαίνουν κι ένα βαθύ τραύμα στην παιδική τους ηλικία.
Σε κάθε περίπτωση όμως ακόμη και κάτω από αυτές τις συνθήκες τα παιδιά αναζητούν μια διέξοδο για παιχνίδι. Έστω κι αν δεν είναι η καλύτερη.
